This is not an academic book, one of those random titles that gets mentioned and peaks curiosity. The author, Gilles Munier, has another book on Iraq and has multiple connections to the Middle East. He spent time in jail for being involved in violations on the sanctions on Iraq. An interesting character. This was published in 2009. One note from the book:
“Operation Ajax [1953] was planned to be carried out in successive stages. First of all, the “free press” began to spread various rumors about the Iranian minister. To prepare public opinion for the next stage of the plan Roosevelt had the press print the story that the Shah had relieved Mossadegh of his prime ministerial duties and had appointed Fazloallah Zahedi as his replacement. In August, the pressure was increased. Demonstrators brandishing portraits of the Shah blocked roads, while the “free press” became increasingly vehement, accusing Mossadegh of being a communist. At the same time, there were stories claiming that he was secretly working for the British and that he was of Jewish ancestry. According to Richard Cottom, who wrote most of the articles in his Washington office, eighty percent of Iranian newspapers were financed by the CIA.” (p. 251)
